LURIE GARDEN. a limited edition print
Inspired by the amazing Lurie Garden on Chicago’s waterfront, this garden, designed by horticultural innovator Piet Oudolf, blew my mind when I visited in 2017. It was about the size of 4 football fields combined, or so it seemed. Long, vast fields of pink echinacea, or a forest of vertical cedars, and designed in such a way that even a distant person in the background was but a speck of colour; nothing to detract from the garden. I believe this style of gardening was eventually coined ‘wildscaping’; planting in such a way that it looks like nature did it.
So this painting was originally rendered in encaustic, with oil pastel and pan pastel embellishments. Now that original resides in the country home of someone I love in Quebec. So I made a limited edition print of it, providing a broad white border to aid in framing. If you’re as moved as I am by swaths of colour and texture, take some home!
