Collage Workshop

In this 2.5 hr long workshop, you’ll receive guidance around colour, composition, and mood as well as the technical aspects of successful collaging, such as  “Let’s stop and review the first layer before proceeding.”  Working with a stunning array of photos, illustrations, maps and fine imported papers from Java, Japan and India, you will learn how to use colour and contrast to your advantage and how to inject whimsy.

No previous art experience required.

You’ll hear things like: “Please have a focal point but please don’t put it in the center.” Also, “If you’re going to rip the papers, rip all the papers. If you’re going to cut the papers, cut all the papers, or else it will look like two different people worked on this collage.”   Guidance by a generous and experienced artist is always available.

All materials are provided: gloves, aprons, brushes, tools, and a wood panel on which to create.

Cost: $65 +HST

Right center: My photos and illiustrations of poppies collaged against a Japanese paper.

Here, I used my own art to create a new design against a gold painted background.

This one, created from thin slivers of imported papers.

Collage Workshop Student work

This work, Blue Heron, was produced by Orlando, a collage workshop participant.

I love it when people whose homes, style and nature buy art that I created. Often it was their home, or style or nature that inspired the art in the first place.

This poppy collage involves my photography, my illustrations, and some Japanese paper.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to collage. Your imagination can run wild. Since the elements you’ll work with have already been created by another artist, (musician, painter, writer, photographer, scientist), your raw materials are rich with inspiration.
